Why do the Japanese do so many things better than the rest of the world? That might be a disputable premise for some, but they sure as hell are more practical. This Japanese multiplication method took the world by storm. It’s easy to use and beyond practical – let’s see how it works.
Learning to multiply was a pain in the butt for many of us. It was easy to memorize multiplication to some degree, but for multiplying double digits we mostly relied on the trusty calculator. Who does it by hand anyway these days? However, this video activated our inner geek.
The line multiplication hack has gone viral, and here are some of the comments below the mentioned video:
“This is literally 10x easier than the way my teacher taught me”
“Why did I learn common core when I could’ve had THIS??”
However, there were critics that mentioned the shortcomings of the method.
“Not a good demonstration as it only deals with easy low digit numbers up to 3. What if the numbers are larger e.g. 68×49?”
“I can’t seem to get this one right. 1,274 × 308 = i know its 392,392. But i cant reach that number with my understanding of the method, pls help me understand :)“
What is your preferred way of multiplying numbers, Radasses? Are you the adventurous types who tried to do it by yourself or mostly rely on a good ol’ calculator?
