‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor began Friday night as a guest at the long-awaited pro debut of Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlan in New York. But by the end of the night, he was a full-blown part of the show, and basically the center of attention with his trademark theatrics stealing the show.
McGregor erupted at members of the boxing media seated ringside at Madison Square Garden in the aftermath of the bout, approaching ESPN’s Dan Rafael and blowing up over the rumored mega-fight between the reigning UFC lightweight champion and (formally?) retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“What’s your name, buddy? You’re the boxing guy? I’M THE BOXING GUY. Watch me take over boxing. Trust me on that. No one in this boxing game knows what’s coming. Trust me on that, when I step in there I’m gonna shock the whole goddamn world. TRUST ME ON THAT. Look me in the eyes. 28 years of age, confident as a motherfucker. Long. Rangey. Dangerous with every hand. I’m gonna stop Floyd and you’re all gonna eat your fuckin’ words.”
Dana White, the UFC president recently revealed that he is confident the fight will take place on the Conan O’Brien Show and MSG publicly announced a late June booking for the event, It looks like this money grab will indeed take place. The crazy thing about this fight is that when most people heard about it, they thought McGregor would have absolutely no chance. I was one of these people, but as more of these videos come out, Conor’s ridiculous self belief and over confidence seems to convince me of his abilities. Sure he has 19 years less boxing experience, sure he has no pro fights, and Floyd is with out a doubt on the Mount Rushmore of Boxing but the ‘what if factor’ is all on the Irishman’s side.
I mean, just watch this video and tell me you aren’t a little convinced. Even if you aren’t convinced, i’m sure you’re interested to see how it all goes down, because I sure as fuck am….
