In November 2020, a Pew Research Center surveyed Americans to find out how many of them are willing to get the coronavirus vaccine. Results were somewhat expected, yet a bit frightening – only 6 in 10 Americans wanted to get vaccinated. That’s why in a certain marijuana shop in Michigan, people thought of an enticing way to help increase that number.
The store goes by the name Greenhouse of Walled Lake, and it decided to offer a free joint to each person that gets a COVID vaccine, as a reward. This interesting offer is called “Pot for Shots” and it was done in cooperation with UBaked Cannabis Company (yes, we love the name, too).
The offer started on January 22 and continued until the end of February. People had to be over 21 years old and had to present a valid medical card and show that they’d been given the vaccine.
In his interview with CNN, the Greenhouse of Walled Lake’s owner, Jerry Millen, said that the offer was the store’s way to thank people for getting vaccinated. In the first three days of the offer, over 2000 people got their free, legal weed, and Millen noted that, if not enough people received the vaccine by the end of February, the offer would last longer.
Michigan Is High
The state of Michigan is one of the 15 US states where marijuana is legalized. Medical marijuana, however, is legal in 33 other states and the District of Columbia.
By the beginning of February, there had been more than 25 million cases of coronavirus in the US, with over 600,000 in Michigan. By February 1, over 30 million people in the US had received a vaccine.
Over 600,000 cases of coronavirus were documented in Michigan by the beginning of February 2021.
WTR?
It was innovative, that’s for sure, and it was a way to get more people interested in getting the COVID vaccine. It might be a bit dicey when one thinks about it, but in the interest of keeping people safe, the shop had a good idea.
