The Land of Oz Theme Park opened in 1970. It closed 10 years later, which is 9 years longer than I would have guessed. When the park opened, it was already 31 years after the movie Wizard of Oz was released. And it wasn’t a franchise with a bunch of movies, locations, etc you could base an entire theme park after. But Grover Robbins spent $16 million to build the park in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.
