Virgin Australia Twitter Account Tells Kanye West to ‘Eat A Dick’
When you Google the meaning of EAD, Wikipedia says it’s an acronym for ‘Employment Authorization Document, AKA a work permit. Urban Dictionary says it’s a three letter acronym for “EAT A DICK.” With Virgin’s Tweet to Kanye having EAD followed up with “you douche”, we can feel pretty certain in this particular case that The Urban Dictionary version applies.
Virgin has since deleted the Tweet claiming it’s bad for business and has followed it up with an apology.
How and why did the Tweet go out in the first place? Kanye West is all over the news these days, which would make this one hell of a publicity stunt. You would think if Virgin Australia was really sorry and embarrassed over the ordeal they would just want the story to go away, but it won’t die. Virgin Australia now says they’ve found the culprit. An Australian media planning and buying agency has since taken responsibility for the tweet, saying it was “mistakenly posted” to Virgin Australia’s 211,000 followers. Now the airline and ad agency are both apologizing profusely. It’s easy to understand a mistake like sending the wrong tweet out by mixing one companies tweet with another, but to actually type @kanyewest EAD you douche, that’s no accident. And if by wild chance it was a mistake, I’d like to know who hired the agency to do an “Eat a Dick” ad campaign. I think the two companies should just stop the shenanigans and own it. After all, it has to be the best Tweet of the year so far.
