Metal, short for Heavy Metal, is a culture. You will enjoy it once a comfortable place is found in that culture. Unlike pop music, the songs are formed from complex musical scales and are technically mature. Some quick tips for first timers…
– Keep an open mind and embrace it for what it is. Appreciating the technical side of music will further your enjoyment. Metal isn’t about the repetitive four chords heard in modern popular music. Most metal musicians are highly trained by professionals.
– Find your current musical taste. For example, If you like melodic music, check out symphonic metal. There’s a sub-genre for almost all tastes.
– Actively listen. Find an element you are familiar with and grow into the rest of the song.
