Games For Americas Birthday!
Looks like it’s that time of year again, and it’s time to celebrate America’s 241th Birthday right. The 4th has to be my favorite holiday you got booze, flags, parades and BBQ’s not to mention a 4 day weekend (for some lucky folks at least).
The BBQ is without a doubt the most important part of this holiday, and you’ve got the essentials — beers, burgers and brats —but what I have learned over the years is that you need an activity or two to pass the time. If you don’t come up with some fun games people generally end up creating their own games of the alcoholic verity. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing (unless you have work the next day) or its your house getting trashed.
Thanks to the Founding Father’s vision of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, you have an infinite number of awesome games to occupy your guests.
Note: these are strictly lawn and pool games, so no beer pong, kings cup, 7/11 dubs, flip cup or Polish horseshoes — hence this one has “Polish” in its name, and it’s Americas birthday not Polands….
Also, fishing and hunting are sadly not included on this list either for obvious safety reasons…
1. Whiffle ball
America’s pastime remarketed for drunks and girls to play together. Lets be real, there aren’t many activities that can top n epic wiffle ball game. Therefore this is my No. 1.
3. Cornhole
American lawn game at its finest. The simplicity of the game is what should be heralded, not its competitive nature or the talent you need to posses to play it. After all, it can’t be all that complicated to chuck a beanbag into a hole, right?
5. Croquet (American name: Wickets)
Can’t say I have ever played this game but it looks pretty fun. Similar to horseshoes, betting on croquet seems like common practice which makes the competition all that more exciting.
6. Bocce
Bocci ball is the more skilled version of cornhole without the boards and the holes, so sadly no room for sexual innuendos when playing, but it sure as hell is fun.
7. Volleyball
This is a great game for everyone trying to burn some of those July 4th calories. It could be played in or out of the pool depending on equipment and the number of people willing to participate. Warning: this game can create some serious rivalries and possible injury.
8. Frisbee
Best part about frisbee is that everyone at the party can play and no matter where you are, the homeowner should have multiple Frisbees. This means easy set up and unless your friends are dicks there will be no hostility.
10. American trivia
Last, but sure has hell not least is this American BBQ classic. I realize I should probably have put this one at top the list, but it’s not exactly a “game” so i’ll leave it for last. With that said, every Fourth of July party should include some American trivia to test the partygoers knowledge of this country and its rich history. Many version are available online. Here are a couple of great version to peruse.
