Today marks the 23rd anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. It seems like every year ‘new evidence‘ surrounding the Nirvana Frontman’s death comes out in the news.
This year, outlets are reporting on information stemming from the 2015 Kurt Cobain documentary Soaked In Bleach. In this segment, the sensationalist accusation goes as far as accusing Courtney Love, Kurt’s widow, as being complicit and even a potential suspect in his presumed suicide. In this important portion of the documentary, a forensics expert identifies that Kurt’s suicide note was likely written by someone other than Kurt himself.
If you haven’t watched said documentary, I would definitely recommend it. At one point in the documentary they inform us that a handwriting practice sheet was found in Courtney Love’s bag, implying she was attempting to learn someone (aka Kurts) handwriting. This is a conspiracy theorists wet dream, and honestly had me questioning the truth surrounding Kurt’s death.
According to the Mail Online, in a scene in the film Heidi Harralson, a forensic document examiner, explains:
“[The sheet contains] letter combinations of specific letters that are found in the bottom portion of the suicide note. It is possible that someone else with some skill could indeed imitate his writing, especially those last few lines.”
“Carole Chaski, a forensic linguist, adds to the theory by pointing out that the top portion of the long note appears to be written in completely different handwriting and a different linguistic style to the bottom four lines.”
Tom Grant, the private detective who was interviewed for Soaked In Bleach, has argued that the letter reads more like a note announcing Cobain is leaving his wife and retiring from the music business, rather than a farewell to life.
He claims the final few lines at the bottom, which read much like you might expect from a stereotypical suicide note, were added later by an unknown individual.via UNILAD
Here is the the suicide note, and the handwriting practice sheet mentioned above.
Kurt Suicide Note
Not going to say she did it, I think people might just love Kurt so much they want to believe anything other than the inevitability that he took his own life. With that said, this whole thing is pretty fishy and should most likely be hashed out so we can get the final answer. Either way, i’m not convinced either way and have some serious skeptical hippo eyes on the matter.
