In past years, Starbucks holiday cups were always red with snowflakes and Christmas decorations on them. This year, they’re just red. Because of this, extreme conservatives believe that they’re igniting a “war on Christmas” and are very upset about it.
The fight over Starbucks’s red cup began with a man named Joshua Feuerstein. He has a big conservative Christian following and he’s pretty good at making things popular on the Internet. Feuerstein posted a video on November 5 accusing Starbucks of being anti-Christmas because they took “Christ and Christmas” off of their red cups this year. This might be Feuerstein’s biggest hit of his social media career. The video went viral and already has more than 14 million views. His rants have a lot conservative Christians very upset and even prompted Donald Trump to suggest we boycott Starbucks.
There are also people that really don’t give a shit what the cups have on them. They are screaming back in their own way pointing out just how stupid and ridiculous this so called “war on Christmas” is. And after all, they do have a good point. Think about it, this is Starbucks and not the Catholic Church. Why anyone feels that corporate America has an obligation to put any symbol of any one religion on a companies printed material is wrong. No matter what your religious beliefs are we all know it’s not right to force feed them on to others. We don’t expect Muslims to read the bible, we don’t force Jewish people to celebrate Christmas, and we have no write to expect Starbucks to put Christmas symbols on their cups. Starbucks has the right to put whatever the hell they choose to put on their cups.
Here are some red cup mockeries I found on the Internet showing just how silly some think this really is.
