My Experience at Coachella 2015
I really don’t know if I should be disappointed, or proud of myself for this past weekend’s festivities. I mean, its not every weekend that I’m surrounded by over 90,000 music craving individuals that can range from, just to say a few; my fellow struggling college students, the drunk guys who pass out before the show starts, the girls who somehow forget to put actual clothes on in the morning (thank God for that), the occasional celebrity, the freelance “medical” pharmacists (today happens to be 420), the “I shouldn’t have taken so many drugs” kid, and finally, that one asshole who thought the best place to take a piss during a show was down the backs of my legs(yes that last one actually happened to me).
With all of that being said, you might now be getting a little better picture of the people of Coachella and what they have to offer…But to be honest, I wouldn’t change a single one of them. (maybe Ill make an exception for “piss boy”) These people clearly have a shared passion for music and art, and amidst the scorching temperatures and trampled grass, people from all over the world that are all different shapes and sizes come together and create something truly remarkable.
This weekend, as I looked from face to face, I noticed something in these people I don’t often see now a days. Happiness. How many places are there in the world that can create such a gathering as that of Coachella and make it a truly happy place to be? It just ceases to amaze me what this music festival is able to accomplish. Now that I have attended Coachella, I am afraid that other events in my lifetime will not be able to compare with what I have seen. Their capabilities to put on a show don’t just stop at the music, it continues on to the art installments that actually interact with the audience, the beer gardens that, well, give you beer (what more needs to be said), and the incredible stages that are a mind-blowing feat in modern architecture. It is all of these things (just to mention a few) that the people come together to enjoy and participate in. Like I said before, maybe not everyday of this past weekend would be classified under my most shining moments but I can’t say that I regret a single one of them. The music was great, the beer did its job, and the woman… well there’s no complaint there. I’m just thankful I had good friends that I was able to attend this beautiful place with and create memories with…. and then immediately destroy them through the memory erasing effects of alcohol. I cannot say that there was any shortage of laughs and smiles among my close group of friends as well as the people I met along the way.
As I headed home (hung over, yet determined to complete this article) this last Monday, I was left with the residing feeling that this past weekend will be something I continue to look back on with great admiration and affection for the rest of my life.
