The Los Angeles Police Department said an apparent New Year’s prank was caught on surveillance cameras and the LAPD is investigating the misdemeanor trespassing crime. Someone climbed the Hollywood Hill and covered part of the lettering on the iconic landmark with tarps to make the sign read “Hollyweed” to ring in the New Year. The prank comes of the heals of California voters legalizing pot for recreational use in this past November’s elections. Although businesses aren’t allowed to sell recreational pot until January 1, 2018, Californians were free to possess and grow marijuana immediately after the passing of the law on November 8th, 2016.

This isn’t the first time the sign has had this type make over. It happened back in 1976 too.
