Spicy Discovery Starts Bidding War
Last month Chris Astoyani grabbed a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos at work. After enjoying a few bites of his afternoon snack he pulled a oddly shaped Cheeto from the bag. After showing his discovery to a co-worker he realized that the strangely shaped snack looked strikingly similar to Harambe. Harambe the silverback gorilla made headlines last year when Cincinnati zoo officials shot him after a child fell into his enclosure.Due to Harambe’s popularity Astoyani decided to sell his spicy discovery on eBay. Listed as “Gorilla Hot Cheetos — RARE — One of a Kind Cheetos — Harambe Gorilla,” Astoyani optimistically started the auction at $15. A few days later the Burbank resident was greeted with hundreds of bids that eventually reached $99,900.
Unfortunately the sale has since fallen through, but Astoyani is confident that he will get a similar bid once he puts it back up for auction. Even if he doesn’t get a whopping $100k he seems happy that his Cheeto has helped gain some exposure for Harambe’s cause. He says he intends to donate a significant portion of the proceeds to an animal rights group if a buyer does come forward.
