A New Found Respect for Punk Rock
I’ve never been a lover of punk rock music, but must say I have tons of respect for these dudes. All four members of the band have Down Syndrome, but refuse to let that stand in their way.
They call themselves Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. They are so loved in their country of Finland that Posti, the countries postal service, made a PKN postage stamp paying tribute them this last May. Everything these guys do shouts punk rock and they do an awesome job of it. Some say they have the feel of the early Dead Kennedys with tons of energy. Their initial goal, other than their love of music, was to raise awareness about their condition in Finland. As they grew in fame they became the subject of a documentary, The Punk Syndrome, in 2012.
