The Car Psychic Eric Kolari Comes Though Again
Dear Car Psychic:
How often should I change my motor oil ?
Dear “I shouldn’t have gotten stoned before auto shop class”:
Wow that’s a good question. So many factors to consider with this question. As a general rule I like to change conventional motor oil at 3,750 miles and synthetic oils at about 5,000 miles. Hope this answers your question and don’t forget to change your oil filter. P.S. if your mechanics looks like that, then an every day oil change would be just fine!
Dear Car Psychic:
How should I change a flat when I have a bikini top on ?
Dear Ms. Hottie:
Make sure you don’t strain your self, but when pulling the tire from the trunk make sure you show lots of cleavage. This will lure guys to stop and help.
Dear Car Psychic:
My Buddy tells me if I put some banana peels in my rear end it will quiet down the noise that comes from it? What do you think?
Dear Gone Bananas:
My wife tells me to put a cork in mine but that’s a different story. The fact is putting foreign objects other than a good quality gear oil in your rear end is a bad idea. (Why do I suddenly feel uncomfortable talking about this?) Once the rear end starts making noise the damage is already done so putting a thicker oil or a foreign substance in you rear end wont make a difference. My best advice is to take it to a specialist for a proper diagnosis. And tell your Buddy to stick it where the sun don’t shine.
Dear Car Psychic:
I’ve run into some hard times and I need to find a car for $1000 dollars or less. Can you give me some advice on this ?
Dear Down and Out:
Cheer up things could be worse. The good news is you can still find a good car for under 1000 bucks. The trick is weeding out the junk the first place. First I would look for friends or family with an extra car they are not using. This could benefit both parties giving you a car and saving them the unnecessary expense of paying for car insurance on an unused car. You can also check the local retirement communities because when Grandma gets to old to drive and the kids need to sell her car you could really find some deals. Craigslist is also an option but it becomes quite a task weeding out the crap listings. Good luck and may a shiny new car be in your driveway soon.
Dear Car Psychic:
Why is it every time I get in and out of my car, I get a giant electrical shock? It’s gotten to the point that I’m afraid to exit my car.
Dear Zappy:
There is a very simple and effective way to prevent this from happening. All you need to do is to maintain contact with a conductive part of your car while you get out of it. The metal door frame works somewhat, but being painted it isn’t the best option. If you have any bare metal or chromed parts that you can easily keep one hand on, this will work better. The way this works is that by grounding yourself no static charge can build up on you. It will be drained away while it is being generated and before it can build to a level to deliver a nasty ass jolt to you. I’ve used this method for nearly 20 years and it works every time. My only problem is that newer cars don’t have much in the way of chrome or bare metal parts to hold on to. Now I have to make do with keeping a firm grip on the painted door frame. I occasionally feel small shocks as the charge builds up enough to overcome the insulation of the layer of paint. Hope this helps.
Dear Car Psychic:
I think I blew a water hose in my car. There is a big crack in a hose that goes from the front of the engine compartment to the side of the engine. I was driving my car and white smoke started coming out of the vents and water was dripping from under the dash. Filled coolant chamber with water and gimped it to the shop. what’s wrong?
Dear All Steamed up:
A leak in your “hose” and especially “dripping from your hose” is never good. The cracked hose sounds simple enough but the dripping water under the dash has me concerned. It is a bit unusual to have a radiator hose go bad at the same time as your heater core. Have your trusty mechanic check it out. If you want to be cheap and need a new heater core you could ask him to bypass the core to save some money for now. But keep in mind you might be needing that heater come next winter.
Only a Saturn owner would stop to pose for a photo after there car burnt to the ground.
