Struggling to afford rent along with basic necessities, Brian Sullivan (29), his wife Starla (26) and three young children ditched the apartment life to live in an old renovated bus.
Brian and Starla Sullivan were tired of wasting money on an apartment. The cost of living was just too much so they had to come up with something to ease the financial pain. So after watching Youtube videos about tiny houses they bought an old school bus for $2800 and went to work. One year later and $30,000 in renovations the family of five is now calling it their home. They now live in a converted bus equipped with a full-size bed, bunk beds for the kids, a kitchen, bathroom and living area.
Starla says that living as a large family in a small house can get frustrating at times but it also has its advantages. Along with their home being mobile, the space rent is now $500 per month compared to the $1500 per month they were paying for their apartment. Starla also says the utilities are about 1/3rd of the cost of what they were paying in the apartment giving them the money needed to payoff student loans and other debt they have.
Although the family is still getting use to their new home, they say have no plans to give up their alternative living anytime soon. You can keep up to date with the family’s journey through life in the bus on their YouTube Channel.
