Don’t worry about cringing from over-exposure to wokeness, it’s only temporary.
Just so we’re clear, the idea of being ‘woke’ means that one is politically and socially aware. That’s kind of ironic since those who claim to be woke are, well, anything but. Taking the time to list 10 examples of the ridiculousness of wokeness is more or less a look at why these ideas are less than appealing to a lot of people.
In a lot of ways, woke ideals are like a smokescreen meant to take away accountability and responsibility. Not every woke individual is misguided or even wrong. But there are way too many individuals who choose to ‘go woke’. Eventually, they end up confusing those around them while they live in a state of confusion themselves.
To some folks, it might sound as simple as changing their thought process. Let that sink in for a moment before laughing. Then take a moment to realize how hard it is to change a person’s way of thinking. It’s true that a lot of people have finally grown up and stopped with the whole woke movement. But at the end of the day, it’s tough to tell someone to think the way you think they should.
With that in mind, let’s look at some of the most woke thoughts that people still harbor, and why they’re ridiculous.
10. Everything is racist/sexist.
There are a few individuals out there who like to push this idea. Anita Sarkeesian is one such individual who’s convinced many people that video games are sexist and racist. It’s true, there might be a point to this in some cases. But in escapist fantasy, it’s tough to think that her point is all that solid. People are selling a product to others, meaning presentation is key.
The ideas that are pushed in various media aren’t notoriously racist, but they do seek to emulate reality. It’s fair to think that a lot of people aren’t seeing the fine line between them.
9. Cultural appropriation is real.
In all honesty, it is true that culturally appropriating certain elements of a culture is wrong. For instance, one probably shouldn’t get a Maori tattoo unless they’re descended from a certain tribe. It’s also fair to say that one shouldn’t claim another culture that isn’t theirs.
But wearing certain clothing? Braiding your hair in a certain style? A lot of these things that people call cultural appropriation don’t necessarily belong to one culture or another. Unless it’s something specific, this notion is kind of nonsensical at best.
8. Victimhood is the way to go.
It’s easier to claim victimhood and blame all of one’s problems on another race of people or on another individual, etc. In this manner, a person doesn’t have to face up to their own choices in life. Calling out people for the sins of their ancestors is absolutely real and something that many people feel is absolutely necessary
Unfortunately, this also means that any empowerment a person might feel from acting this way isn’t real. If an individual needs to shirk responsibility and accountability, all they need to do is play the victim and forget about their pride and integrity. Hey, it happens.
7. No Justice, no peace.
It’s perfectly okay to block roadways and act like loud, spoiled children when something happens, right? People are allowed to keep others from getting to work to push a social agenda, yeah? Or maybe it’s okay to lie down on the road and protest…something.
The point is that people tend to think that it’s okay to disrupt others to get their point across. Making a YouTube video go viral or staging a meeting or a gathering of some sort appears to be low-brow these days.
6. Hate speech isn’t free speech.
Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Steven Crowder, and many others have gone online to talk, converse, and explain why this is absolutely true. But when hate speech is defined as someone saying something another person doesn’t like, it gets complicated. Jordan Peterson has been one of the most vehement about this matter, especially when it comes to preferred pronouns.
You know what though? Every person that states that hate speech IS free speech…is correct. Speech that calls for harm to be done to another person or group of people is wrong and isn’t free. The only thing that people aren’t free from when it comes to speech is the consequences that come from the things they say. Otherwise, we’re free to say anything we like until it has the ability to cause harm to another person. If it hurts your feelings, well, grab a tissue and move on.
5. If you don’t like something, call it out on social media.
Sometimes it’s very easy to wonder why social media was ever created. Then again, it’s a fun tool to have when you want to show your life to others or connect to someone you know that’s far away. Otherwise, a lot of people have been using it to prove that their thought processes are nothing more than trigger warnings and microaggression detectors that are constantly on and constantly ready to hit the panic button.
A good tip is to expect to be offended by the world in some way, every day. An even better way to handle it is to grow up and move forward. I know, mind-blowing, right?
4. Socialism works.
A lot of people might need to pick up a history book and remember why socialism doesn’t work. Plenty of countries can attest to the fact that this system doesn’t work. For some reason though, people don’t want to listen. Sure, capitalism has its flaws and mishaps. But competition is what makes a country great since people push each other to do better.
If you don’t want to push or be pushed, then you’re living in the wrong world. Just about every force in the world pushes a person to survive in some manner.
3. The media is always right.
Never question the media, because they’re experts. Right? They know what they’re doing and what they’re saying. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be on TV, right? There are plenty of individuals that you should be questioning simply because of the things they say and believe in. But the truth is that people pick and choose what they want to believe. Of course, some folks don’t always pick what’s right.
This is a highly debatable issue of wokeness since it can swing back and forth across the neutral zone. Too often the people we think are sane and reasonable can become unhinged. Thankfully, some folks identify themselves right from the start.
2. College should be free.
Yeah, why not? The elitism that exists in schools shouldn’t be the most important part of college, right? Why should those who don’t have a lot of money need to put themselves into debt to gain a prestigious education?
Oh, my, head. The main reason this is ridiculous is that education is important and if it’s spread around freely without any value, it becomes meaningless. Sure, going into debt sucks, but it’s a choice. So is getting a library card and educating yourself. But apparently, a lot of people haven’t heard that line from Good Will Hunting.
1. The entertainment industry needs to focus on inclusion and diversity, not telling a great story.
This is a can of worms that contains a lot of different opinions. But shouldn’t movies focus on getting as many people of color and from different backgrounds into a movie? I mean, the story isn’t that important, right? It’s only the stories of minorities and those who feel oppressed that should be pushed, yeah?
If you’re laughing at this or scowling it makes no difference because it is a ridiculous thought. Every story deserves to be told, but putting priority on quantity over quality is the type of ridiculousness that’s capable of making people look elsewhere for their entertainment.
WTR? (Why’s That Radass?)
Being woke is kind of ironic. It’s meant to indicate that people who are woke are more conscious of political and social issues. Yet, for all that, they don’t want to deal with a large percentage of issues that they don’t like. In other words, they want the world to work the way they want, and vilify the rest. That’s simplistic, but otherwise, the longhand explanation would go on for a while. Stay safe out there Radasser’s, and accept the world for what it is, not the way you would have it.

Well, quite honestly, this is an opinion article so…of course there’s the possibility of error. Oh, I do understand that socialism in its purest form doesn’t work. The textbooks that speak on this, ALL of them, not just those that appear to be leaning one direction, make this loud and clear. However, those parts of socialism that are integrated into our current society are…wait for it…used to help balance out our society, rather than dominate it entirely. Should socialism be eradicated entirely? Probably not, since there are a few good things it can do. But as a ruling government? No, socialism is still just as much of a disaster as many have come to realize. The fun part about this, your comment I mean, is that it means you read the piece, but failed to recognize one thing: I’m not a journalist, never claimed to be. This is an opinion site that offers up a few different interesting topics, not the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, or anything else. You want journalism that spells out doomsday in large letters and tells you how to think, go somewhere else bubba. Here, we’re out to entertain and give people something to laugh at occasionally. Don’t worry, next time you come back we’ll try to put up a sign that says “Yank out the stick and laugh for a tick”…
The quality of journalism is definitely on the decline. This is a one sided hit piece. The writer doesn’t seem to understand that while socialism in its purest form doesn’t work.. we still incorporate large parts of it into our society as a whole. The fire department and the police are perfect examples of socialistic components.
That is just one flaw I see in this opinion piece.
