You can keep it simple or spring for the extras, it’s on you.
It hardly needs to be said that life moves at a quick pace. Plenty of people deal with it on an as-needed basis, meaning that they do whatever they can and whatever works to relax when they need to. It’s not always easy to relax and enjoy the day, there’s usually plenty to be done and a lot of demand on the average person’s time. This requires the average person to remain wired and ready to react to the world around them more often than not. But there are those days when there’s nothing and no one to please that kind of demand that we practice self-care and make certain that we’re mentally, emotionally, and physically capable of moving forward. In other words, there are days when it’s smarter to let the world keep spinning and pamper yourself.
Everyone has a different idea of how to pamper themselves since some folks might consider pampering to be taking a vacation, climbing a mountain, or doing anything outside the home they can think of. But there are a lot of ways that one can pamper themselves inside the home without having to spend a small fortune to relax. There are a lot of ways to pamper yourself at home that don’t require anything other than the ability to just let go and allow the world to take care of itself. People need to relax every now and then, right?
Here are ten ways to pamper yourself at home.
10. Take a long, relaxing shower, or bath
One thing that any reader will come to realize very quickly is that pampering is a personal matter. What makes one person comfortable might not work for the next person. When talking about baths and showers it’s very easy to see the difference. After all, a bath allows a person to lay back and just soak their stress away, perhaps while lighting candles and using essential oils to further enjoy their time. Showers are great since they keep a person upright and allow, through the use of different shower heads, to massage away the stress using hot water and different settings. But really, it’s all about personal preference, so whatever you’re into, just enjoy it.
9. Put on some relaxing music as you clean
Some readers might find this less than useful since cleaning is a chore for many folks. But to others, it’s therapeutic since it represents wiping away more than a mess, it’s a way to gain peace of mind. And if you can listen to music while doing it, many folks would agree that it’s even better since it gets you into the mood and helps the job go faster. It’s easy to understand the hesitancy that some people might experience when thinking about this as a solution. But honestly, it does work for some people.
8. Find a scented candle you can stand and light a few
There’s no need to turn your home into a potential fire hazard by buying out Yankee Candle or something equally as nuts. But investing in a few scented candles that can spread your favorite scent far and wide throughout your home is pleasant in a way that many would agree with. Granted, if you’re not living alone you might need to take into account the fact that not everyone is going to enjoy the same scent. But if you’re at home alone and feel the need to relax, a pleasing scent can go a long way toward helping a person enjoy the day.
7. Lounge around the house in your comfy clothes
On a day off this is kind of a must for a lot of people since changing into your work clothes is mandatory during the work week. But being able to just slip out of bed and into something that’s possibly baggy, worn out, or even just big, roomy, comfy, or capable of increasing your chill for the day, is priceless. Of course, once we get back to work a lot of us have to let the comfy clothes go. But pampering yourself with comfortable clothing? Oh yeah, that’s the stuff.
6. Brush your hair…seriously
Guys might not always get the benefit of this simple process, but it’s fair to say that some will know exactly why it’s a comfort. Snags and tangles in your hair, be it on your head or on your face, are painful and can be kind of stressful since yes, they do hurt and only add to the discomfort. But brushing your hair and feeling the bristles glide through all silky smooth? That’s a good feeling and it can chill a person out in a big way.
5. Cook your favorite food
A lot of people already know that cooking is cathartic. Cooking comfort food is even more so since there’s usually less to it. But no matter what you’re cooking, make sure that it’s to YOUR taste if you want to pamper yourself and not worry about certain ingredients or techniques. Seriously, be safe with it, but otherwise do your own thing.
4. Stream a movie or a TV show, binge-watch…DO IT
Now, we’re not trying to promote the need to binge-watch all day, every day. But for at least one day or so every now and then, sitting down to binge-watch your favorite movies or perhaps an entire season of a TV show, if you’ve got time, is a pleasure. Obviously, you’ll need to get up and use the bathroom, get a snack, and perhaps do a couple of other necessary things. But otherwise, kick back and relax, and keep that remote control handy.
3. Read a book, it works
There aren’t a lot better ways to escape from the real world in this life than a book. Even if you like reading non-fiction, the point of a book is to get away from the world around you for a little bit. Plus, despite the fact that this counts as pampering, you’ll still be benefiting yourself since fostering an active imagination, or simply a busy mind, is part of what reading is all about.
2. Sleep in, no seriously, sleep in
This is another practice that can become a bad habit but, when used correctly, can help a person to revive themselves by getting a few extra winks. Sleep is something that a lot of people don’t get nearly enough of, but sleeping in, if done in moderation, can help to recharge your batteries and make you feel as though the day can get by with you for those few extra minutes, or that extra hour.
1. Do nothing for a day
Honestly, this just doesn’t work for some folks. There are those who get twitchy after sitting around for more than a couple of minutes doing nothing. But the ability to sack out on the sofa, sit in a chair, or just lay in bed for a while, is priceless since while it can become a bad habit, doing nothing can act like an extra rest period or a reset for your body. Sometimes it’s necessary to do NOTHING in order to get motivated to do something.
WTR (Why’s That Radass?)
Every now and then you need to pamper yourself, if only to make sure that you don’t wear yourself out. There’s nothing wrong with being a little bit lazy when your body requires rest. Take care of yourself before you take care of the world, a rested body is a productive body.
